A midsummer nights dream

In this passage of William Shakespeare’s comedic play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Helena expresses her feelings in her monologue on page 23 lines 232-257 of the play. She is reflecting on her jealousy of Hermia and her plan to tell Demetrius about Hermia and Lysander’s secretive marriage. Previously, Hermia and Lysander trusted Helena by telling her of their plan to leave Athens so they may get married. Since Helena is passionately in love with Demetrius, she is willing to risk the trust of Hermia and Lysander hoping to gain fondness or gratitude for her gracious deed. Shakespeare has created some anticipation because the reader expects Demetrius to find Hermia and Lysander’s departure from the city.
