Infant massage is beneficial for both child and parent because it combines the nurturing touch of a parent, massage, and reflexology in a fun and loving way that helps promote babies mental, physical, and emotional development. In this paper I will be discussing the benefits of infant massage for child and parent, infant massage techniques, the benefits of taking your baby to a chiropractor and the history of infant massage among many other topics that involve infant massage. It is my personal opinion that infant massage really does help a child and parent form a close bond to one another and research shows that in the last ten years Infant massage is becoming very popular with parents that work full time and need a way to bond with there children.
Infant Massage has been practiced all over the world for thousands of years by many different cultures for many different reasons. In many Asian cultures especially Indian cultures Infant Massage is a tradition that has been passed down from mothers who teach there daughters Infant Massage who in turn teach there daughters or daughter in laws how to perform Infant Massage. Most Indian cultures don’t begin massaging the infant until the umbilical stump has fallen off and continue to massage the infant until the child can walk. Indian massage incorporates the use of mustard seed oil for massage in winter because it warms the babes skin and coconut oil in the summer because it cools the baby’s skin. Unlike Americanized Infant Massage the Indian massage method does not include a set time for massage. To perform Indian Infant Massage the mother sits with her legs stretched out in front of her and sitting up with her back straight. ... Infant Massage also plays a large role in the day-to-day lives of many African Cultures. African Infant Massage if preformed from the day the infant is born and continues up until the child in three or four years old. The techniques used in African Infant Massage are very different from those used in Indian Infant Massage . African Infant Massage incorporates much more strenuous movement because in the African cultures vigorous movement is believed to increase strength and flexibility. ... African Infant Massage also involves a technique called dangling where the mother holds her baby bye one arm and then holds the baby in the air out in front of her just by the baby’s arm and the arm stretches. Infant Massage has become a fairly new trend in the united states even though Infant Massage has been practiced in many different cultures for centuries. Infant Massage was first introduced into the united states in the early 1970’s when Vilmala McClure wrote her book “Infant Massage : A Handbook for loving parents.” Vilmala’s techniques of Infant Massage including Swedish Massage strokes, reflexology, and yoga are now the Infant Massage methods practiced in the united states today. Vilmala also established the international association of Infant Massage , which has trained hundreds of infant massage instructors all over the world.
Infant Massage is a time for both parents and children to have a special time for communication both verbal and physical that creates a loving, compassionate and child other than the formation of a close bond between the two.
