My observation of a regrettable incident It was a normal day at work except for the fact that I received an unexpected phone call from someone I hardly knew. Some 4 months prior to this day I was doing home repairs for Remax. I was hired to fix a light malfunction and a water leak at a local rental property that Remax managed. I approached the door and was met by an occupant. She was a black lady with a friendly smile. She invited me in and showed me the malfunctions and I immediately began working. I was new to whole idea of going to people I don’t know and fixing things. It must have been 45 minutes but seemed like hours when a tall man with big hands and also a friendly smile came into the house and introduced himself. Our conversation was detailed as to the line of work that I do. I explained to him that I was more like a freelance worker that earns money by fixing things around the house. Our conversation ended by him asking me if I was interested in doing some other work on an apartment complex. I immediately said yes and gave him my phone number. I thought to myself. If he owns an apartment complex why is he renting a house? The phone call that I believed that would never happen happened. At first I was unsure who I was speaking with on the phone. After him prompting me on our first meeting I put two and two together. He had bought the apartment complex and wanted me to take a look at it and give him some quotes on some work that he needed completed. I was extremely excited at the opportunity to have steady work and not piece meal work through Remax. Thoughts about the extra cash and the learning curve on remodeling crossed my mind. He called me on my cell phone at about 5 pm and I was still working.
