Upon scanning the newspaper from August 21, 1933, many aspects were very different and yet, many were similar to the newspapers that are delivered to our doorsteps today. ... In 1933, automobiles were just not the necessity that they are today, plus they were way too expensive: a whopping $445. ... Copelands Advice column, where people can write in to the newspaper and receive advice from the doctor. ... Very rarely do we find a newspaper today that does not have a comic section and/or a crossword puzzle.
Other sections of the newspaper that did not strike me as too amazing or different were the wanted ads, Vital Statistics, and the New York Stock Exchange. ... This is one paper I really enjoyed writing because I felt it was interesting to see how the newspaper of this day correlated to what we were learning in class. The newspaper acted as a still, flashback picture of the busy lives of the people in 1933. Even though 1933 is not entirely too long ago, it is hard to imagine how much society and the economy has actually changed, but the newspaper project really helped me to put it into perspective.
