John Proctor is the only townsperson to see the trials to be what they were. ... ”(Act I, 1098) John Proctor learns that the girls were not bewitched and all the girls’ accusations are false. John Proctor was unknowing of the proceedings occurring in Salem and because of that he only goes to tell the courts what he knows after the situation has already exploded. When John Proctor loses his wife into the madness of the witch trials, he decides he will do all he can to stop them.
