Eventually the approaches to psychology changed from structuralism to Functionalism, focusing on the purposes of consciousness, and the Gestalt psychology, which dealt with visual perceptions of shapes, patterns, or configurations. Each of these approaches was an important part of the history of psychology and helped open up new perspectives in the psychology field. ... The first instance of the study of this perspective began in the early 1900’s when a Russian scientist named Ivan Pavlov noticed that dogs salivate when they are confronted with food. ...

This is an advanced perspective that didn’t get too much of a following until after the early 1960’s. ... In the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s, most psychologists were white males. The study of psychology being strictly white males was strictly biased without the opinions of females or individuals of minority. ... Eventually the segregation had to give as the people’s ideas of equality thankfully changed. White and black, male and female, whatever the case, the study of psychology would now be opened up to new ideas from people of diverse backgrounds and culture.
