Physics Coursework Investigation
An Investigation into the factors affecting the resistance of a metal wire
Variables
Output variables:
Resistance of the wire
Input variables:
The length of the wire
The cross-section of the wire
The material used in the wire
The temperature of the wire
Current travelling through the wire
Selected Variables:
1.The length of the wire
2. The cross section of the wire
Prediction for variable 1:
As you increase the length of the wire, you also increase the amount of resistance created. This is because the flow of current has more wire to travel, and therefore the resistance will increase.
Prediction for variable 2:
As the cross-section increases, the amount of resistance will decrease because of the larger surface area.
