In-Room Communication Hotels are always trying to bring down running costs, to improve profits, what better way than by minimal disruption to everyday hotel operations and input of capital. This product has been named eRoom Systems or Guest Link systems. These systems use televisions to communicate with guests in their rooms, to welcome the guest, keep them apprised of their bill, check out and provide any information about the hotel etc. There, of course, varying standards and features that the hotel can choose from at their discretion, here is a list of the features the range offers; Ø Welcome message Ø Message service Ø Wake-up alarm Ø Conference channel Ø Internet access Ø Laptop connection Ø Film services Ø Video on demand Ø Language select Ø Pin code Ø Room service Ø View bill Ø Express check out Ø Ancillary services Ø Climate control These are all functions that the guest can use to improve their stay and heighten their opinion of the hotel services. There are, however, also functions that aid the management of the hotel. These include; Ø Property management systems (PMS) link Ø Hotel information pages Ø Sequence information pages Ø Roll text Ø Announcement Ø Fire announcement Ø Message waiting list Ø Housekeeping Ø Maintenance Ø Guest survey Ø TV programme statistics Ø Minibar consumption and stock services Ø Minibar opening switch The benefits of using a guest link system can have quite a big impact on both guest perception and hotel management. First impressions last, and after the initial first contact of the front office staff is the first impression of the actual hotel room, having a welcome message posted on the guests TV screen provides a personal touch to the guest which is a good thing especially as the system is multi-lingual and can use different languages in each room. This also encourages the guest to use the other facilities the system offers such as, the message service.
