A Higher Power What is God? This is a question that has been asked for thousands of years, one that I can never answer in one little speech. Why have people throughout history always felt the need for religion? Why do we still feel that need? What are the benefits of having religion? These are just a few questions out of thousands but with just these few there are already thousands of answers. Throughout the ages people have explained the unexplainable by saying they were acts of the gods. Why was there a drought, because Demeter was unhappy; why was the battle won, because it was the will of Odin. The ancients created myths that explained almost every aspect of their lives, from their creation to the end of their world. A key component of ancient mythology, and also today’s religion, is the battle of good versus evil. A Babylonian god slays the dragon of chaos with storm winds and arrows. Good triumphs over evil.
