The Wife of Martin Guerre In the arranged marriage of Bertrande De Rols and Martin Guerre, both young children were twelve. Describe the courtship, I didn’t think at that stage of the relation ship there was much courtship at all. By this time they had only laid eyes on one another for a few hours. Artigues is found in the very south of France about 590km south from Paris. In the winter the city of Artigues has very high snowfall which made it isolated from other towns around the area. Initially Bertrande’s feelings for her husband were not so strong because she didn’t really know him that well like his personality and other characteristics. In the family home of the Guerre’s the eldest Male was always in charge and head of the family, he made the rules.
