. i Introduction Microsoft has the most popular Operating System used in the Computing World as we know it. Almost every computer user is using a Microsoft product; this being said raises the question about Security Risks! What if one person could find a way to infiltrate a Microsoft Product, would this not be a risk to every person who uses this Microsoft Product? Purpose and Scope The purpose of this report is to show how Microsoft, because it is a widely used product, can cause the demise of the Industrial World as we know it. In this report, I will focus on Microsofts Operating Systems and its Security Flaws. I will illustrate real events that have already taken place, events such as Code Red, Slammer, and Blaster, along with ways in which these problems can be overcome in my conclusion. History of the Problem Microsoft has been a leading software developer since 1986. Microsoft gained its competitive advantage because of its easy to use programs. Almost all companies use a Microsoft program to date; programs such as Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc
). The problem arises when too many companies come to depend on the same element because by removing that element companies will become helpless and crumble. The hacking society has had a major role to play in finding flaws within the Microsoft Community. However, lately some hackers have taken it a step further, so much so that they are now called Computer Terrorists. Computer Terrorism is the act of destroying or of corrupting computer systems with an aim of destabilizing a country or of applying pressure on a government. Computer Terrorists are now using Microsoft as a gateway to entry or rather what we call a Back Door, into the Federal System, the Banking System and even the Private Business Sector. In this paper I will try to show that because Microsoft is such a world dominator in Operating Systems, the entire Technological World as we know it can quickly crumble.
