David Lloyd George did not want the people of Germany to become so disillusioned with their government that they turned to communism. He did not want Germany treated with clemency but he knew that Germany would be the only country in central Europe that could stop the spread of communism. Lloyd-George wanted a compromise between the French and American ideas to begin with. He had wanted Germany, and the central powers to be punished somewhat because of the public opinion at home, but he hadn’t wanted France to then become very powerful. 2. Yes and no. Britain felt that the overseas territory of Germany, Austria-Hungry, and Turkey should be limited, hence, restricting the countries from obtaining additional strength. Since a partial factor of the war was the ideal of imperialism, it was essential to prevent countries from spreading their boundaries.
