For Marx, his belief that money is what makes each stage of civilization advance and making progress in history. Marx’s theory is that civilization progresses through trade because it opens up new territories and creates new market demands, demolishing the feudal systems and transforming manufacturing into industry, thus creating more capital. ... For Weber, he believed that the Protestants felt the need to be productive in means of money producing. As one of his quotes from the founding father of Lutheranism said, “Luther emphasizes instead, and with increasing vigor, that the fulfillment of one’s duties in the world constitutes, under all circumstances, the only way to please God (Weber, 40). ... Not only did the Protestants worked hard, they also felt that frivolous and luxuries were evil and that they kept one from being more “godly” (Weber, 43). ... For Marx’s theory, he believes that the proletariat works hard to provide for his own needs. Weber’s idea of an individual’s reason to make money is because he wants to fulfill his need to build a closer relationship to God.
