Management Planning Function
Planning is one of the four functions of management. Along with organizing, staffing, and leading these four functions make up the process of management. The planning process is the fundamental function from which the others form. It has become apparent that the need for planning is very important. Planning is an ongoing process that develops the company’s mission and objectives it also helps to determine how they will be accomplished. Planning is something that we all do practically everyday. ... By planning we are less likely to have any surprises and by knowing what our tasks are for the day we are more likely to get those task accomplished. ... Erven discusses in his article the planning terminology, strategic planning, and just the overall importance of the planning function.
The terminology of planning is pretty basic. Planning is important on all levels of management; it’s the characteristics of the planning function that varies form the different levels of management.
