"O" versus "Othello"
Spike Lee once said, "Shakespearean works are timeless classics and should not be changed in any shape, form, or fashion. ... The movie "O", written by Kayaa and directed by Nelson, is based loosely on the Shakespearean tragedy "Othello" stars Odin (Mehki Phifer), a black basketball player in love with white Desi (Julia Stiles). Aside from the iota of motifs both works share: power, greed, love, and race, "O" cannot be considered a remote adaptation of "Othello" because of the lack of key themes.
Being married to a signor’s beautiful daughter and being a prominent Moor, Othello is under constant scrutiny by those surrounding him.
