If These Walls Could Talk

April Wiegman WOMS201 “Baby killer”. “Women’s rights are only one-third of the rights involved in pregnancy.” These words are strong, especially for the introduction of a pro-choice movie. However, If These Walls Could Talk employs many such opposing arguments to strengthen its justification of abortion as an option. The film utilizes an interesting tactic to convey its message. Instead of “glorifying” abortion or even the choice of such, the movie displays the bullheaded opinions and actions of “pro-lifers” throughout the past century. After all, the right to choose includes the ability to choose life, and the movie reiterates the problem of the protesters hampering women’s decisions. In the 1952 story, disputers of abortion ranged from Mrs. Ford, a fellow nurse who simply frowned and tried to turn a blind eye, to Claire’s sister-in-law, who screamed that Claire was forbidden from having the child in the same town as her family.
