"The more sand has escaped from the hourglass of our life, the clearer we should see through it"can be easily interpreted to mean that the older we get the wiser we should also get. That the wisdom we attain as the "sands of time"continue to slowly slip by should allow us to see things more clearly. A simple way to look at words that were once used to help guide and advise a Prince. Niccolo Machiavelli wrote many famous quotes during his lifetime, especially when he wrote "The Prince." However, it would seem that some of his quotes would go on to be repeated and heard through political speeches for centuries to come.
