The summer before you first leave for college is spent filling out forms and questionnaires, and wondering. At least mine was. I filled out all of the roommate forms, the health forms, the course selection forms, and the five hundred other pounds of paperwork that is necessary for colleges. And I wondered. What would college really be like? Would it be the endless rounds of parties that everyone claimed it to be? Or would it be very boring and stuffy? Would I make friends? Would my roommate and I be like sisters? That was my biggest worry. Living in very close quarters with a total stranger. I remember the day that I got the letter informing me that my roommate was Sang Chunyue from Miami. It included a phone number and suggested that we talk to each other, but I was afraid to. I didn’t even know how to pronounce her name. How could I call her and make a good first impression when I couldn’t even say her name? But she called me a couple of days later and solved my problem. Our first conversation wasn’t very exciting, but it went okay. I felt much better after she told me to call her Julia because she didn’t use her Korean name because it was hard to pronounce. After we had talked a couple of times, my Dad suggested that we offer to pick her up at the airport, to make it easier for her and so that we could meet each other.
