Obesity is a new epidemic in America and is worrying the minds of many. Obesity is defined as an excessively high amount of body fat or adipose tissue in relation to lean body mass. This is a problem shared by approximately 60 million Americans, and about 10 million of these are characterized as fatally obese. Being obese can sometimes not be solved just by doing the everyday diet, such as Dr. Atkins, Weight Watchers, or Slim Fast; or even by exercising. The excessively obese people are now solving their problem by a surgery called Gastric Bypass. The Gastric Bypass is an attempt to weight loss by limiting the amount the stomach can hold. This obesity surgery is estimated to be performed on more than 100,000 patients this year, bringing in revenue of more than $2 billion. Although the surgery may seam ideal, it does have its risks and complications. Having an abdominal operation places a lot of stress on the body, which creates an open wound, which can bleed, and fail to heal, or even have the potential to become infected.
