Macbeth is considered a brave hero at the beginning of the play. He is seen as a brave hero that would do anything for his King and country, “Brave Macbeth- for well he deserves his name”(act 1 scene 2). Throughout the first stages of the play Macbeth is referred to with nothing but positive names, “Noble Macbeth hath won”(act 1 scene2) and “Worthy Macbeth. ... This shows us that people respect Macbeth and think that he is brave.
The feelings towards Macbeth at the end of the play is completely opposite to those at the beginning of the play. The people that described Macbeth as a hero and noble now think of him as something sent from the devil, “Hell-hound”(act5 scene 8) and “Black Macbeth” (act 4 scene 3). ...
There are five main features of a Shakespearean tragic hero, the hero is of high birth and position, they have many good qualities, one flaw in their character brings about their demise, they show regret for their crimes and the audience feel pity and a sense of waste at the end.
Macbeth show us that his flaw is his ambition. ... Macbeth himself admits that it was his ambition alone that drove him to kill Duncan, “I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition. ... Macbeth also reveals his jealousy towards Malcolm, he also reveals that he ashamed of himself for feeling that way, “Let not light see my black and deep desires” (act 1 scene 4). Lady Macbeth sees that Macbeth is a kind man, too kind in her eyes, “yet I do fear thy nature, it is too full o’th’milk of human kindness. ...
Macbeth’s ‘human kindness’ is shown in his guilt and regret for the murder of Duncan.
