Hester Prynne follows the journey of the hero throughout the book. During the book we can infer the occurrences that happened before the first chapter of the Scarlet letter. A lot of inferences and assumptions are made to exactly what happened to Hester Prynne, but her character definitely goes through changes of her being and she overcomes many obstacles. At the end of the story she finally completes the journey of the hero. Hester’s life before the story she is married off to an old man Roger Chillingworth whom she does not love but her father made her. Later Chillingworth sends her off to America while he stays in Europe. Two years pass and she does not here a word from Chillingworth. She wanders without rule or guidance, in a moral wilderness and falls in love with Arthur Dimmesdale and becomes impregnated.
