People of Makah have been living on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and the Strait of Juan De Fuca for hundreds of years. The prehistorical population of Makah was double what it is today. Makah lands surrounded the islands of Waadah, Ozette, Cannon Ball Tatoosh, the Bodeltas and the islands on Lake Ozette. ... The people of Makah lived in their several houses in their villages which are 30 feet by 70 feet long. ... The social units of Makah life were large extended families. ... The people of Makah also loved camping, they travel during summer, what they do is going to Tatoosh Island or places like that to get closer to the fishing and whaling sites, and really enjoys what the nature has to offer. The early people of Makah had a eager understanding of their environment and had a great respect for their water, land, animals, and trees which the god has given them to help them survive from the cold and wet, and stormy weather.
