The Effect of Watergate upon America
The Watergate scandal was a huge and devastating event, which hit America hard. The president, which they had admired in the past, had suddenly become heavily and suspiciously involved with the scandal, which saw the burglary and bugging of the buildings, and the black mailing for money to play dirty tricks.
The press was full of stories and connections between Nixon and the scandal, and the incident with the tapes did not help matters either. He would not allow anybody to listen to his tapes, which he had secretly recorded, which obviously showed that he had something to do with this scandal or something to hide.
The effect on American was huge, nothing was quite the same again, people were a lot more reluctant to put their faith in politics and not quite so readily trustworthy of presidents or vice presidents either. ...
These acts were a way of securing against any other scandal happening again such as the Watergate scandal.
