... After 600 CE, there is a diversion in the history of the Hindu culture from the early religious traditions to a new variety of practices known as the bhakti movement. A new revolution of the Hindu religion emerges from the commencement of the bhakti movement unlike any previous traditions based on the classical Sanskrit texts. It is because of this movement that the traditions of Hinduism changed and therefore allow for a more practical religion which is accessible not only to the religious elite, but to the whole Hindu community.
The bhakti movement began in southern India or the area south of the Vindhya Mountains and Gujarat when two groups of saints who worshipped Visnu and Siva journeyed the lands singing their praises. ... After the movement, 108 scared places of Visnu worship were established alone as it became an imperative aspect. Lastly, the bhakti movement diverges from any past traditions because it considers the Tamil compositions written by the saints to be equivalent to the Sanskrit Vedas. Whereas earlier literature such as the Bhagavad Gita, the epics and the Puranas were said to be scared and holy, bhakti traditions place less emphasis on these works and more on the writings of the saints, this being an incredible discrepancy from past beliefs.
