Ill treatment to Native Americans

In this paper I will prove that the colonists and the explorers treated the Native Americans in a shameful and disrespectful way. ... I will hope to prove that the Native Americans were considered lower class citizens because of their culture, savages because of their lifestyles, and mindless because of their failure to comprehend new methods.

I believe that the Native American were looked at as lower class citizens because in letters of Columbus regarding his first and second voyage, Columbus stated that, “with the people of which I could not have speech because they all fled immediately (p12).” I understood this to mean that the Native American had not been accustomed to seeing these ships and settlers, and since it was their first time it scared them.
