Population Growth
Jacqueline Windy
Experts say, “The earth is being murdered, and population growth is the culprit” (Vittachi 1992). Must population control be the first step in solving the global environmental crisis ? ... Barry Commoner was quoted by Vittachi (1992) as saying “The theory that environmental degradation is largely due to population growth is not supported by the data”. I will argue that population is not the major problem and controlling its growth certainly will not help fix the world environmental problems.
The first reason why controlling population will not solve the world environmental problem is that natural resources should not necessarily be used up. ...
The next reason why population control must not be the first step to solve the world environmental problem is because the problem, such as starvation, basically is not caused by population growth.
