Unobtainable Perfection
What is the definition of perfection? Most agree that perfection is someone or something demonstrating the highest degree of excellence. Most also concur that perfection is too difficult a task to obtain, and for this reason, most do not realistically expect themselves to be perfect. The people of the towns in the short stories “The Minister’s Black Veil” and “Young Goodman Brown,” both written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, believe that perfection is a goal that must be aimed for.
