Jane Eyre Summary
The novel Jane Eyre is broken down into five sections; Gateshead, Lowood, Thornfield, Moor House, and finally Ferndean. Each section represents a new phase in Jane’s emotional as well as intellectual development throughout the novel.
Gateshead is where Jane’s cruel aunt Reed lives. Jane, being an orphan, spent her childhood growing up at Gateshead Hall, along with her mean cousins, John, Eliza and Georgiana Reed.
Lowood is where Jane was sent away to school by her aunt Reed. The conditions in which Jane was subjected to live by were extremely harsh. Jane met a student about her age, by the name of Helen Burns who she was able to trust, however it wasn’t long before
Helen died, leaving Jane lonely.
