In Walden, Henry David Thoreau’s environment is an essential part of his beliefs and standard of living. His philosophy is demonstrated through the symbolism of his life at Walden Pond. The seasons of the year also show great significance to his life. They all represent something just like his surroundings. To Thoreau, the setting that one is living in, makes their life what it is. Thoreau shows a lot of significance in his surroundings and shows their importance in his life. Henry David Thoreau lived at Walden Pond for two years from July 4, 1845 to September 6, 1847. Thoreau went to the woods to live a life of simplicity. Thoreau said, “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what I had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived”.
