In the "Damnation of Canyons" published in Beyond the Wall: Essays from the Outside, Edward Abbey discusses Glen Canyon before and after the construction of the dam. Abbey introduces three different reasons for his negative viewson the dam. First, Abbey shows how the cost of visiting the canyon has changed extremely. Second, he describes the way the canyon was before it was dammed. Finally, he explains the effects or consequences of the construction of dam, "when the river was dammed almost all these things were lost." Abbey concludes the article by sayingthat the canyon will restore itself with time, "the river and canyon will bear a decent resemblance to their former selves." With the damnation of canyons, many of its natural habitats are lost.
