“We were the lands before the land was ours”. This statement can be defended by discussing the many people who settled in the Colonies. When you look at an area like Jamestown, Plymouth of Massachusetts Bay, they were created from scratch by the people who went there. In all three areas, each had their own type of people. These people had their own interests and plans with what to do in America. It could be they were investors or landowners and wanted to make money, or were escaping for religious freedom. These people shaped the type of government they made when they first arrived. These self-governments represented what they initially wanted in a government, and were based on their interests.
