Dear Kabayan, What!!! Are you trying to tell me that you want to leave our country and start a new life? You know what, it took me 18 years before I got to realize how fortunate I am to be a Filipino and to live in such a country like ours. I had the opportunity to be sent to Europe and to travel a lot in search for “contentment” for the things that I thought our country couldn’t offer us. I’ve always found myself in a journey to neighboring countries in Europe, trying to discover exotic places in the Caribbean, Baroque churches in Italy, Ruins of the Greek people and of the war, castles in Germany and such things that we only used to see in books, magazines and in our dreams. One instance during my 2-year stay in Germany without my family, a Filipino priest asked me, “knowing that you’ve been traveling a lot here in Europe, does that mean you’ve seen enough of your country?” I stopped for a while and that made me reflect on the answer that suddenly popped out of my head… NO!!! And I whispered to myself, “what am I doing here?” I was blinded by their wondrous places, monetary value and by the rest of the “European pleasures” that I’ve always aimed and desired to experience ever since I was a kid.
