Deforestation is when many trees are cleared from a large area. Why do we deforest? People deforest because timber and wood is a necessity to humans. We need paper, which comes from trees. We need timber/wood for houses and other buildings, and we need it because of increasing urbanisation in some areas. We need wood for commercial and industrial use as well How does it affect the environment? -Deforestation has killed hundreds of thousands of species by taking away the habitat that those species are living in and are adapted to. -When trees grow, they take in CO2 because they need it to make the carbohydrates, fat and proteins that are used to make up the tree. But when trees decompose after they have been cut down, they release that CO2 back into the atmosphere (increasing the greenhouse effect, therefore accelerating global warming).
