A chairperson is a leader who directs people to achieve a certain task. In this case it is an event. The chairperson must be able to make his plans clear and also be able to hear others needs and wants in his group. If they are going to delegate tasks, people will want to voice their opinion to make the event run more successfully. The delegates will work more efficiently and with more passion if they know that they are included and treated fairly throughout the plan. There are three modes of communication that all work together for a person to be an effective leader. Most people think communication is verbal. It is, as well as listening, reading and speaking. When speaking, it is important to be as positive as possible to let everyone remain upbeat about their tasks and positions in the event, so they perform to their potential. If a chairperson acts negative in any way, the delegates will follow the example set out for them and the event will become a failure. Another mode of communication is non- verbal. How you perform the tasks yourself is what non- verbal communication is. What specific task you do is also non- verbal. If you delegate the hardest jobs to others and save the easier jobs for yourself, that does not have a positive effect with team members.
