My pursuit to become not just a teacher but a well-rounded individual who possesses the necessary qualities to excel, began at a very tender age of 17 when I left year 11 to 6th form to study to become an accountant, only to be told that there was where my formal education had to stop in order to allow my younger sister a chance to complete her high school education. The reality was that we were always faced with a financial crisis that seemed to have been inherited and passed down to my grandmother who was in charge of my humble upbringing. As a result I was drafted into the noble profession of teaching, something I did not want to do but had no choice as my grandma was a head teacher of an infant school and thought that this ‘start’ would help me to earn some money and get me out of the ‘inner-city way of life’-becoming pregnant after leaving high school and starting or continuing the cycle all over again. The only way out was through education and becoming self-reliant in order to emancipate oneself from bondage and change ones socio-economic status.
