The relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth alters throughout the play. In the beginning it seems that Lady Macbeth is the dominant character in the relationship. As the play then progresses the roles seem to reverse and Macbeth enters the role of the more dominant one. ... Lady Macbeth desperately wanted to become queen and when the king made Macbeth the Thane of Cawdor they both thought the weird sisters must be right and he would become king.
When the question was vaguely brought up of killing Duncan to get the throne Lady Macbeth worked on this idea and in her eyes it seemed to be a good idea. Lady Macbeth then went about trying to persuade Macbeth into killing Duncan even though he clearly didnīt want to. I think she tried to persuade Macbeth into killing Duncan because she wanted the glory of being queen, but it could only be gained through him as in those days females were not allowed to play an important role in society because they were seen as the weaker sex. ... ī
Lady Macbeth didnīt give in and ended up convincing Macbeth after a little effort, it didnīt take much convincing because the thoughts were already in his head and she just had to make him overcome his fears that lay in his conscience.
