don't have an essay at this timeChopin took much care in the way she developed the protagonist, Calixta. Calixta proved to be a dynamic character. She was introduced unaware that the storm is coming, but conscious of the stifling heat -- a discomfort that causes her to loosen her collar, partially baring the top of her breasts. As the storm intensifies, a gentleman named Alcee appears, asking to seek refuge on her porch. She agrees, and together they bring in the clothes hanging on the line. The strength of the storm drives them inside the house, and Alcee helps Calixta stuff a piece of "bagging" under the door to keep out the rain. Clearly here they are working to keep one storm outside but they are also shutting the storm of Calixta's forbidden love up inside the house with them. to the reader as a hardworking and completely occupied housewife.
