The History of Basketball

Basketball all started in 1891 by a man named Dr. James Nasismith. He wanted to created a sport for christan students indoors. He wanted to create a game based on skill instead of one that was relied solely on stregnth. When basketball first started the game was played with two peach baskets on the ground used as goals and a soccer ball. Today of course we have nets and hoops and a basketball. Those were invented about a decade after the iron hoops and hammock style was introduced in 1893. The first contest or game is believed to have been played on December 21, 1981. I have the 13 orignal rules use for the game that Dr. James made for them and how they realted with todays game we play. "1-The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands." (still the same today) "2-The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands, but never with the fist." (A player shall not kick the ball or strike it with the fist. ) "3-A player cannot run with the ball.
