With the advent of next generation networks, new and innovative services will soon find their way to the market place. Players across the communications industry will attempt to generate further revenues from existing markets and create new revenue streams from new markets facilitated by ever advancing communication technologies. In particular, network operators are strategically positioned to take advantage of increasing revenues, as they are the primary facilitators of next generation services. Network Operators are first and foremost access providers to next generation data services but also have the ability to assume other roles such as content provider or content aggregator. Realistically, moving away from their core competencies could result in network operators spreading their expertise and resources too thinly hence the more prudent route of establishing partnerships with specialists in different areas. This ensures that the customer is ultimately receiving the best possible experience.
