I’ll never forget where I was when I heard the news. “Mr. Volt is a Vulcan!” whispered Nevon. Nevon had been reading science fiction lately. “Look at his ears.” “What about them?” I asked. “They are pointy!” Nevon said impatiently. I looked closer. They were pointy. “Brrrrnnng,” went the bell. First period was coming up next. On the way out Mr. Volt patted Nevon on the back. Shed felt a sharp on her shoulder blade but thought it was just a bug bite and ignored it. I was in Mr. Volt’s first period science class. When I sat down I saw him watering his plants just like he does every morning. Only this time he bent over and sucked the chlorophyll out of one of the plant’s leaves. He pushed that leaf behind the others so nobody would notice. Then he went up to the front of the room to wait for the class to come in. I saw Devon during band third period. She now had a hump on her back. She didn’t seem to notice it too much until someone would ask her about it. “Don’t make up lies!” she would belt. By lunch Devon was very pale and seemed to be getting shorter. “Nevon, are you alright?” I bravely decided to ask. “No, Pami. I am dying.” I was taken aback. How could Nevon, my best friend be dying? As we talked more she thought the on her shoulder blade was Mr.
