Who would of thought that Michael Jeffrey Jordan would be the type of NBA star he is now. Jordan didn’t make the Varsity basketball team in his freshman or sophomore year and now he is said to be the greatest basketball player ever. Jordan became greater and greater every year of his career and is now said to be even better than just the greatest basketball player of all time. He is now said to be the greatest over all athlete of all time. Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York. Jordan’s address was 980 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1600, Chicago, Illinois 60611-4501. Michael was the youngest of a total of five kids in his family. His parents names were James and Deloris Jordan. Even thought Jordan was born in Brooklyn, most of his life he grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina where his dad worked as an Equipment Supervisor in an Electric Plant. Jordan’s mother was also working at the time in Wilmington, she headed a Customer Service Department at a bank. (Straub p.297-298) Jordan’s parents always worried about his grades and academics as well as his athletic life. Jordan’s father James Jordan always made him concentrate more on his school life instead of his life in sports. After a little of Jordan’s life went on James and Deloris started to notice a need for sports and athletics with Jordan. They noticed he was willing to take almost all of his time to practice his athletics. Once they noticed this and thought he had a chance of going somewhere in life with sports they told him to work as hard as he could and so set goals. (Straub p.298) Jordan always had an excellent personality throughout his life. He was very out going and an overall happy person. His favorite sport to play besides basketball in his free time was always golf. Jordan got a chance to play in the PGA tour one time. Jordan had a habit of sticking his tongue out whenever shooting a jump shot or going up for a dunk in a basketball game. Jordan’s father James always used to do this while concentrating on something hard. It was a trait passed down to Jordan. (Phelps p.89) Michael Jordan’s High School basketball career started at Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. In Jordan’s Freshman and Sophomore years he tried out for the Varsity basketball team for his school. Both years he didn’t make the team. Jordan was only around 5’ 9”. During the summer of his sophomore year Jordan spent almost every minute of his free time at home practicing his basketball skills. After all of Jordan’s practice and him trying to develop his skills more and more he eventually made the Varsity team during the start of his Junior year.
