... Through the years farming methods have changed, some in good ways and others in bad. In the old days, the well being of the environment was not taken into consideration when farming was done. This was ok since old farming methods were not harmful to the environment. Through time people have discovered methods to which they thought would change farming forever, and it has. In today’s conventional farming the use of pesticides and chemicals to help grow plants along with new watering methods help to make farming easier. While all of these new things may help farming in the short-term range, in the long run the farmland will suffer greatly and so will the environment. ... Things need to go back to the way they were in the old days, where food was free from chemicals and the farming was environmentally sound. All of this can be done through the method of sustainable farming.
In my first article the main topic was sustainable farming, and was broken into three main goals being environmental health, economic profitability and social and economic equity. ... Since then it seems as though the main goal of farming has been maximizing production. In order to maximize production, new technology is being used during farming. Although many of these new technologies have helped farming, at the same time it is hurting farming, and without question more bad is being done then good. ... People who want to switch to sustainable farming are worried not only about the present problem but also the long-term effects.
