Samuel Beckettˇ¦s ˇ§Waiting for Godotˇ¨ takes issue with concepts that humans particularly hold dear to their hearts„othe passage of time, the purpose of faith. ...
Vladimir and Estragon spend each day waiting for a certain Godot to come, in the same routine. ... ˇ¨ Although they have never met him, they patiently and steadfastly anticipate Godotˇ¦s arrival, lying to themselves that if Godot does not arrive today, he shall come ˇ§then the day after tomorrow.ˇ¨ This pattern of hope, compounded with disappointment at Godotˇ¦s absence but followed by a renewal of hope, represents the instability and the unpredictability present in the lives of Vladimir and Estragon.
However, Vladimir and Estragon resign themselves to inaction, believing that ˇ§weˇ¦ll be savedˇ¨ by Godotˇ¦s coming. They do not exercise free will, imagining to ˇ§go far away from hereˇ¨ but precluding themselves for their mindful and agonizing wait for Godot.
