The United States has supported a strong space exploration program since the mid 1950’s. People have always been fascinated with space and discovering what lies beyond earth in the great universe. The first American satellite to be successfully launched into space was the Explorer I in 1958. Since that time we have launched many satellites, probes, and spacecrafts into space. ... However, there is much controversy concerning whether the hundreds of billions of dollars spent and human lives lost in space exploration is worth the benefits.
