Pentagon

Summary The author of this article says that President Bush needs to take a reasonable approach to the defense budget. This action will enable him to pay for his tax cut and fund his education and health programs without taking from more important trust funds such as Social Security and Medicare. The United States defense spending accounted for more than 40 percent of global military spending which indicates that the defense budget is extremely high. The author feels that Bush should approach this problem by moving from a two to one-war strategy. Bush should also cut the existing force structure by at least 20 percent and persuade the military to skip a generation of technology.
