During the Boston Massacre, Captain Thomas Preston was charged of being the murderer of five colonists. This assumption is incorrect because with the provided information there is not enough evidence to convict Captain Preston as charged. On Captain Preston’s account the colonists were being malicious and there were many people yelling “fire!” There was a misconception of facts leading many people to believe differently. This Boston Massacre has been exaggerated to a great extent. A massacre means to kill indiscriminately and mercilessly in large numbers, which the Boston Massacre was not, unless you count five people to be a massacre. The killing of any amount of people is wrong but there were some provocative factors and this very incident may well be an accident. According to some eyewitnesses, Hill, Palmes, Murray, Andrew, Whitehouse, Prince and Woodall are convinced that Captain Preston did not order anyone to fire. Hill said that he saw some soldiers putting up their guns to shoot when Captain Preston came over and said, “ Fire no more you have caused mischief enough.” Palmes said that he saw Bliss provoking Preston to fire but the captain had no intent on firing. Palmes also stated he was standing right next to Captain Preston when someone else said fire and the soldiers began to shoot.
