The Civil War was influenced by many factors, that forced the United States to face the issue of slavery which eventually led to the start of the Civil War. Reform movements from 1850 to 1861 were one of the causes of the Civil War. Another factor was westward expansion. Lastly, states rights’ was also one of the causes of the Civil War. During 1850 to 1861 reform movements played an immense role as one of the causes of the Civil War. The reform movement for secession took place during this period. Southerners feared that a Republican victory in 1860 would be a catastrophe for their economic interests and their right to hold slaves as property. Due to the fact that southerners felt this way many southern states voted for secession and withdrew from the United States.
