Portfolio Reflection Essay When the year started I thought my best skill in school was my writing. I knew it was not the best in the world, but I thought I my skills had improved since recent years. In the past, I would never get many insults on my essays I wrote, only complements and maybe a few suggestions. Going into the school year I came to the realization, that not every person thought the same way I did about my writing. I can admit that the things I needed improvement on was my fragments and, in my view, that I needed to expand my vocabulary when writing essays. I could see that I would use the same words repeatedly in my essays, after awhile I considered it a real drag to read something that sounded a bit familiar in content. As I went through my pieces of work from the beginning up until now, I did not notice many differences. As I read them though it made me remember the time and effort, I had put into particular papers. I noticed a pattern in my style of writing; in the start of the school year, I was not as serious about my schoolwork as I got towards the middle of the year. The papers I wrote got longer, had more opinions, had taken a more serious tone, and thought added into them more towards the end of the year, compared to more of earlier papers I had written. The earliest piece I have is of a poem I had to write about myself. You can obviously see that I did not put a lot of effort into it. I did do the assignment though, never the less. If you know a little about me, you can see that the phrases and words I used to describe myself are true. Also, the way I worded the things I wanted to say also describes the kind of person I am. You can see by the words I used that it is not as “deep” I guess you could say, as I get with my works I have of after this poem. I think this poem is playful and full of fun. As it might look, I had fun writing it and did not take it serious. So, although I did not put as much time into the poem as I might do with any other assignment I accomplished what was assigned to me. The next thing to look at is I journal I wrote about I challenge I had to face. I remember when doing the journal entry that I could not think of anything to write.
