This essay will look firstly at what globalisation is in detail, a look at how it began and its key players, then at the effects of globalisation on organisations around the world and how they have had to change the way they conduct business in order to remain competitive and successful, the advantages and disadvantages of globalisation and finally I will conclude by evaluating globalisation and its role in the future.

Globalisation is seen by many as primarily an economic phenomenon, involving the increasing interaction, or integration, of national economic systems through the growth in international trade, investment and capital flows.
However, one can also point to a rapid increase in cross-border social, cultural and technological exchange as part of the phenomenon of globalisation.
The sociologist, Anthony Giddens, defines globalisation as a decoupling of space and time, emphasising that with instantaneous communications, knowledge and culture can be shared around the world simultaneously.
