Although all empires have their own inimitable characteristics and distinctive quirks, there are general principles that apply to the bulk of them. For example, the prerequisites for an empire’s rise and the circumstances in which it falls are universal. The similarities are especially prominent among classical societies such as the Gupta and Roman empires. In reference to the formation of these empires, both were founded upon the vestiges of earlier, weaker societies. And concerning their fall, both were brought to their knees by nomadic invasions. ...
